18" x 24" oil on canvas. This large, male kingfisher is about to land on a log outcrop. It will perch until it spots a fish and then dive headlong into the water for the catch. Belted kingfishers inhabit our coastal wetlands all seasons so their rattling call is well-known. The painting is based on a shot by Tony Markle, an outstanding Craig Bay photographer.
